Basil

Botanical name: Ocium basilicum

Storing:

Fresh: Preserve basil in olive oil in a plastic bag.

Freeze: Puree with little H2O. Pour into ice cube trays.

Dried: Have in airtight container in a dark cool room

Tips

Dried Basil does not have the same taste as fresh basil. It has a more minty taste.

You should tear, not cut, the fresh leaves.

When adding basil to your salad, add it LAST.

The young leaves at the top of the basil plant are sweetest. So I guess there is an actual difference in taste where you pick your leaves from.

*I love to add basil to my lasagna dishes (I think it is a typical to do so in an Italian dish haha).
